We overhauled the extensive range of mobile power supply units for WAECO GmbH. In addition to defining a platform and system strategy, we enhanced the functionality of each product. This enabled us to optimise details such as interface design, cable management and transport to meet users’ requirements.

The two-year collaboration had a positive impact on manufacturing and logistics costs through the standardisation of numerous system components and had a lasting influence on the design of the product range.

For Squareone, good design is only half the battle – we also want products to be manufactured cost-effectively whilst still maintaining high quality. In the case of Waeco, the key feature was the modular aluminium profile, which accommodates a variety of interchangeable inserts, some of which can be customised.

The series of large sine wave inverters forms the cornerstone of Waeco’s extensive design language development. Internal slots provide guides for different circuit board layouts in a triple stack. The outer profile accommodates feet and wall brackets, as well as a smart multi-socket.

For products in other sizes, the profiles can be cut to shorter or longer lengths. The design of plastic housings, such as the LighterPlug, incorporates the characteristic ribs of the profiles, which not only offer design benefits but also prevent the products from overheating.
